Biography

Bernd (Siegen, 20 agosto 1931 – Rostock, 22 giugno 2007) and Hilla Becher, born Wobeser (Potsdam, 2 settembre 1934) were German artists working as a collaborative duo.
They are best known for their extensive series of photographic images, or typologies, of industrial buildings and structures. They were part of the conceptual art movement and were promoters of the School of Dusseldorf. Many artists were influenced by the style of Becher including Andreas Gursky, Thomas Ruff, Thomas Struth and Candida Höfer. The artist couple received many important awards including Erasmusprijs and the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. In 2004 they won the "Hasselblad Award".
